SDR started from very humble beginnings in the highlands of Okanogan County, in the north central part of Washington State(USA).  DJ Sticky & Essential I formed the label in the summer of 2004 with long time friend and fellow artist Huckleberry after spending many years working individually on their own [mainly] Hip-Hop music and gaining a huge underground following throughout WA state.  Reggae artist, Jahson Ites later joined the roster and SDR began to tour and record as a unit incorporating Hip-Hop, Reggae & Dancehall styles.

Sick Donkey Records continues to strive forward with the belief that conscious, positive and educational music can change the world for the better.

The label has worked with Singers, Producers and Musicians from over 20 counties to cross pollinate their fans and ideas for a more peaceful and sustainable future for the natural world and all humanity.

After recording several local mixtapes and underground singles between 2004-2006, the record label’s first official release was Jahson Ites' debut album, "Forward Outta Babylon"(2007), which features Essential I, DJ Sticky, Adrian Xavier & The Dub Champions, as well as Bill Ortiz (trumpeter for Santana) on horns.

The second release from SDR was Essential I's debut album, "FreeDem SoulJah"(2008), an 18 track album with a blend of Reggae, Dancehall & Hip-Hop with guest appearances by Promoe (of LoopTroop Rockers - Sweden) on the song and music video "Future Cops"  as well as the other Sick Donkey Records label mates. The album featured production from Germany, New Zealand, St. Lucia and the U.S. and gained a good amount of radio and soundsystem play.

In 2009, Sick Donkey Records released its third full-length, a 19 track various artists compilation, the one drop "Standing Firm" Riddim.     The compilation features the Sick Donkey Records stable artists, Jahson Ites and Essential I as well as a full array of top global Reggae artists from 7 countries.  The riddim was played on over 100 radio stations in the US alone and on Sirius/XM, Dish Network Reggae channel, made it onto many international DJs set list and had a great number of good reviews in the press including: "One of the best riddims I have ever heard" -- Ras Achis reggae blog.    For more on the Standing Firm Riddim click here
